The artist

Ellen Zaks is a visionary figurative artist, published poet and dancer. Zaks has a B.A. Degree in Expressive Arts of the Brighton University and further studies at Sir John Cass College of Art of London. Ellen Zaks left England to live in Malaga in 2003.

Ellen is fascinated by the theories of quantum physics, which tell us that there is a secret dance of energies that we are not aware of with normal vision: heat, magnetism, and even the electrical activity of our thoughts and emotions. For Ellen Zaks, these mysteries are the starting point of her artistic explorations and unfold her desire to come closer to what reality might be.

Ellen's line and gesture are expressive in a similar way to dance and can evoke Egyptian art with their stylization and purity. Her rich paint qualities give us a feast of lavish, glowing colour, delicate blooms and vivid washes of amazing chromatic intensity that conjure up Matisse or sometimes in their delicacy William Blake. Although Ellen Zaks considerers herself to be a figurative artist, she invests her work with many abstract qualities.

The act of painting is, for Ellen, a form of meditation, an activity that enriches and heightens our perception of the world. Ellen paints the human form from a woman’s perspective and in doing so, endeavours to share the discoveries that she finds beautiful.

Ellen Zaks is a British visionary painter. She has exhibited extensively in the UK and her work is in many private collections in England, Canada, Holland, Sweden, Japan and America.
