KARIN VAN DE WALLE
La artista
Karin van de Walle (1964) The lewd woman of Karin van de Walle seduce and
challenge the viewer. This artist has developed her own style and use of materials,
which leads to very special, very uncommon scuptures. Bright glazings are combined
with matt colours and different materials such as glass, metal or mirrows.
The sculptures of Karin van de Walle are a journey through pop culture,
mythology and history, where decorational value is allowed to play a large
role. These humoristic sculptures with their outrageous colour contrasts and
powerful expression are very unique.
Karin van de Walle (1964, the
Netherlands) studied at the
Academy of Arts "Sint Joost"
in Breda, Holland. She makes
ceramic sculptures with a very
personal signature and use of
material. Lately she started a
project to cast her sculptures
in bronze.
Many of the sculptures are
flashy, lusty and exuberantly
coloured.
Some of the work however, is
very serious and quiet.
Hedonism is alternated with
mysterious silent women, based
on historical pictures. The
work is characterized by a
mixture of pop-culture and
myth, it is elaborately
decorative and definitely
refreshing different. Most of
the sculptures are unique or
are made
in limited edition.
