SALVADOR CALVO

El artista

Salvador Calvo (1948 Istan). In 1966 he started his artistic career in the Centro Oficial del Patronato de Enseñanza Media of Ronda. Salvador lives briefly in London and Paris to settle in Madrid in the seventies. It’s in Madrid where he studies and works in various artists’ ateliers, he studies photography, engraving and investigates the technique of the great masters such as Goya, Velázquez among others. In 1982 he moves to Chicago and consolidates his figure of international renown. One of his most distinguished works, finished in 2003, is LA ESFERA a public sculpture for the Plaza del Calvario in Istán. Salvador returns to Spain in 2007 to continue surprising the viewer with his creations.

The result of my artistic work at present is due to many years of work, search and experiences in different countries and cultures.

“The structure of my compositions is the synthesis that allows me to project in a deep way my emotional world and my intellectual preoccupations.
By a nearly mathematical analysis and a personal pictorial technique inspired by renaissance I create volume, light and shadow, the organic and the geometric. His works are made by enigmatic and mysterious forms that remind us of the aesthetic of our technological surrounding.

The identity of my work is the peculiar way of doing things different and the expression of a transformed and intimate world where mathematics and fantasy became a reality.”

1948 - Nace en Istán, Málaga.
1966-69 - Inicia su formación artística en el Centro Oficial de Patronato de
Enseñanza Media, Ronda, (Málaga) donde fue discípulo del profesor de pintura Cristóbal Aguilar.

1972-82 - Después de una breve estancia en Londres y París, fija su residencia en Madrid en 1973 donde estudia y trabaja en talleres de diversos artistas, entre ellos el pintor Francisco Coello.

- Investiga las técnicas de los grandes maestros como Velázquez y
Goya, entre otros. Madrid.
- Realiza estudios de fotografía en la Escuela Photo Centro, Madrid.
- Cultiva el grabado en Tres en Raya, con el artista Manolo
Ayllón, Madrid.

1982 - Traslada su residencia a Chicago.
- Amplia su formación en grabado en el Evanston Art Center, Evanston, Illinois.
- Trabaja la escultura en madera, integrando otro tipo de materiales
como el metal y la piedra.

Actividades artísticas paralelas:

- Innovación en diseño de interiores.
- Fotografía creativa.
- Consolida su proyección y presencia en ámbitos artísticos
internacionales realizando múltiples exposiciones de pintura en Europa y EE. UU.

Cabe destacar como homenaje a su localidad natal, la escultura pública LA ESFERA, cuya construcción e inauguración tuvo lugar en 2003, en la Plaza del Calvario, Istán, (Málaga).

2007 - Retorna a España viajando frecuentemente a EE.UU.
